The Department of Cancer Studies & Molecular Medicine comprises five sections.  These are linked by their research into different aspects of Cancer (aetiology, biology, prevention and treatment) or by their focus on stem cell and cell biology as they relate to the reproductive and gastrointestinal systems.

The Department of Cancer Studies & Molecular Medicine has over 140 members, including  37 academic staff.

Officers of the Department are:

The Department is managed by a Board comprising 13 members.  Research is developed and monitored by a Research Strategy Committee (Chair Prof R Walker).  The Department has laboratories and clinical facilities at the Leicester Royal and Leicester General Hospitals and also in the Biocentre and Hodgkin Buildings on the main University campus.  In addition, clinical research facilities are sited in the CCLG offices on 9 Princess Road West.

Research is carried out through the following Sections: Chemoprevention and Biomarkers, Cellular Interaction and Cell Signalling, Radiation and Oxidative Stress, Reproductive Sciences, The Children's Cancer and Leukaemia Group

The Department is also home to the University's Forensic Pathology Section.
