Cellular Interaction and Cell Signalling |
|||||||||||||
The Cellular Interaction and Cell Signalling section was formed in 2003 as
part of the Department of Cancer Studies and Molecular Medicine. It
comprises 10 academics, post doctoral research associates, technicians,
PhD, MSc and BSc students. Our research goal is to
“achieve greater understanding of molecular and cellular alterations that are key factors in cancer development and progression”. Our aim is to translate the knowledge of molecular and cellular observations gained from in vitro model systems and in vivo analyses to the patient - clinical diagnosis, prognosis, therapy prediction and development of novel therapies. “From basic science to the clinic - a complete translational programme”. Research is focused on four main cancers:
Each group comprises both scientists and clinicians, and are based in the Hodgkin Building (B lymphocyte malignancies, urology) and RKCSB (breast, skin). There are important interactions between these four groups as well as other members of Cancer Studies and Molecular Medicine, the Departments of Biochemistry, Genetics and Engineering, University of Leicester, clinicians of University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust, and National and International collaborations. Funding is from MRC, CRUK, AICR, British Urological Foundation, Breast Cancer Campaign, Medisearch, Hope Foundation. Research approaches used by the section include:
