The CWIS contains over 100,000 html documents and 250,000 files. This can mean that finding the information you need by browsing is difficult and time consuming. Early every morning, an index of the contents of CWIS is generated. This index is used to find CWIS information matching the search criteria you give. Its basic facilities are easy to use and should allow most users to quickly locate the information they require. Please note that only documents on the University's central web server are indexed in this way.

Simple Search

To perform a simple search, enter a list of words, separated by spaces, into the Search: box. Then choose either Any or All from the Match: selector box.

Any: Use this option to find documents containing any of the words. This will increase the number of documents found, but they may be less specific to your query.

All: Use this option to find documents containing all of the words. Conversely, matching all of the words decreases the number of documents found, but they should be more specific to your query.

Advanced Search

If searching for a collection of words does not allow you to find the information you require easily, you can build more complex searches by combining words, parentheses ( ) and the operators and, or, and not (which should be thought of as but not.)

For example use the following phrase in the Search: box to find accommodation that is NOT private sector:

accommodation not (private and sector)

Advanced from the Match: selector, and click on Search
