Graduates Overseas

Whenever possible, reunions are arranged to coincide with visits from a member of the University.

The Alumni Relations Office can assist with mailings to all graduates in the relevant country for a graduate reunion, and provide literature for promotional purposes.

British Graduates Society - Greece

The British Graduates Society in Greece are holding an Autumn Garden Party at The British Embassy Residence, Kolonaki on Wednesday 27 September 2006.

The Society Patron, the British Ambassador Simon Gass and his wife Marianne have kindly agreed to host this event in the spacious gardens of the Embassy Residence. Along with delicious canapes and open bar, you will be able to enjoy live jazz music by Dimitris Vassilakis, a graduate of the Royal Academy of Music and member of the BGS, playing with the Dimitris Vassilakis Jazz Quartet.

Malaysian Graduates' Association

On 29th November 1998, 37 Leicester Graduates gathered at the Crown Princess Hotel, Kuala Lumpur, to endorse the formation of the University of Leicester Graduates' Association of Malaysia (LEMAGA). This meeting saw the convergence of engineers, directors, military personnel and even an assistant minister from the Ministry of Finance and Public Utilities of Sarawak. The Association was officially registered with the Registrar of Societies on 22 March 2001.

The idea of starting up an Association for Leicester's Malaysian graduates was first mooted in 1995 by Alvin Oon and Chong Han Lim, then undergraduates in the Social Sciences and Engineering respectively. A provisional committee was subsequently founded to spearhead the formation of the association, headed by Gary Ng, Law 1996. The first issue of "LEMAGA", the newsletter of the Persatuan Graduan Universiti Leicester Malaysia was produced in June 2002.

Current Executive Committee Members of LEMAGA

Lim Chong Han Lim (President, Engineering 1996), Khoo Kah Yong (Vice-President, Law 1996), Ng Yong Kean, Gary (Secretary, Law 1996), and Yong Kok Hoe, Alvin (Treasurer, Engineering 1996). Current Committee Members are Dr Paul Lim Vey Hong (1990 Medicine), Frankie Tan Keng Beng (1999 MA Business Administration) and David Ho Shau Yee (1998 MA Business Administration).

Annual General Meeting 2001-02

More than 14 graduates of the University, together with their spouses and friends, attended the Association's AGM and Dinner on 3 August 2002. The event was held at Bukit Kiara Equestrian and Country Club in Petaling Jaya.

An afternoon bowling tournament preceded the evening's AGM and dinner with more than 15 graduates participating. The winner was Suresh Vythylingam (Law, 1990), with Mr Khoo Kah Yong (Law, 1996) coming second and Mr Jason Lee Kuan Ching (Engineering, 1998) coming third.

Australian Graduates

The British Council in Australia alumni events include a professional and social networking element, to allow UK graduates from all Universities to meet - which has resulted in several old friends getting together for the first time since graduation.

UKAN Malaysia

The British Council in Kuala Lumpur and the British High Commission in Malaysia have developed a web based portal aimed at helping Malaysians with UK qualifications keep in touch with the UK & with one another. Membership is free and available to anyone with a UK qualification at advanced diploma level or above.

Taiwanese Graduates

The British Council in Taipei organises many events for students leaving and returning to Taiwan. Their latest seminar was attended by 60 recent graduates from 25 different UKeducation institutions.
