The Alumni Association Annual Public Lecture

The University of Leicester Alumni Association is proud to announce that the 2009 Annual Public Lecture is to be delivered by Mr Tarique Ghaffur, CBE QPM (Honorary Doctor of Laws, 2008)

Mr Ghaffur is the former Assistant Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, a former Superintendent of the Leicestershire Constabulary and an Honorary Graduate of the University. He will give a lecture entitled 'Leadership in Public Life'.

Having become oe of the most high-profile police officers in the country, Mr Ghaffur's lecture will look back on his 34 year dedicated career in public service, which he describes as his "personal odyssey", and will address issues of politicisation, managerialism and the need for strong role-models.

2009 Annual Public Lecture

 

The Lecture is free of charge, and is open to graduates, students, staff and the general public.

Previous lecturers have included the late actor and comedian Derek Nimmo, journalist Michael Nicholson OBE, film-producer and freelance policy advisor, Lord Puttnam, actress and director Janet Suzman, the late Professor Malcolm Bradbury, renowned explorer Dr David Hempleman Adams, naturalist Sir David Attenborough CH, FRS and Dr Adam Hart-Davis.
