Bodleian Library, Oxford - Thursday 9 November 2006
Graduates of Leicester and members of our Family Programme were invited to an informal reception and buffet at the Bodleian Library.
Graduates and their guests were welcomed by the University's Chancellor Sir Peter Williams and Vice-Chancellor Professor Burgess in the magnificent setting of Divinity School.
Known informally to centuries of Oxford scholars at "the Bod", the main library building contains upper and lower reading rooms, the gift shop and the Divinity School with its remarkable vaulted ceiling. During the evening graduates and guests had an opportunity to visit the Library and also Convocation House, guided by members of staff.

National Space Centre, Leicester - 28 June 2006
Graduates of the University had a unique opportunity to explore the award winning National Space Centre on 28 June, during an evening when it opened exclusively for the Alumni Association.
The event attracted more than 130 graduates - spanning six decades from 1945 to 2005 – who gained an insight into what it takes to be an astronaut, as well as learning about the latest research and discoveries in space exploration.
There was an opportunity for graduates to sample a selection of brightly-coloured “space” cocktails on arrival, before a welcome address by the Vice-Chancellor. In his talk, Professor Burgess described the special links between the Space Centre and the University, which co-founded it with Leicester City Council, following a successful bid to the Millennium Commission. He also gave an overview on the latest developments at the University including a succession of recent achievements.
No visit to the Centre would have been complete without a trip to the edges of the Universe. In a screening of the film ‘Big’ – narrated by Richard Attenborough – graduates travelled on a mission through time and space in the state-of-the-art, multi-media, domed theatre.
Graduates were able to catch up with long-standing friends while exploring the Hub, Rocket Tower and reception area with its portals into the six themed galleries: Into Space; Exploring the Universe; The Planets; Orbiting Earth; Space Now; and Tranquillity Base.
After an evening of exploration many graduates realised that they had only just scratched the surface and vowed to return for another visit to one of the country’s prime visitor attractions.
We are always happy to help you with arrangements for a reunion - large or small - particularly by providing publicity on this web site and in the Leicester Graduates' Review. We may also be able to assist with mailings; and if you are planning to meet in Leicester, we may be able to help you with a venue, catering arrangements and so on. But please do give us plenty of notice if you want to work with us and make the most of this support.
