Opportunities for Postgraduate Study |
||||||||||
The Department provides higher degree research opportunities in a wide range of topics in Cardiovascular Science and Medicine. Research projects range from fundamental studies in cell and molecular biology and genetics through to clinical studies. High quality research training is provided by departmental staff engaged in cutting edge research. The department is very well equipped and Postgraduate Students are supported throughout their projects. Each Postgraduate Student has an individual committee that is responsible for helping them get the most out of their research training. In addition to their projects, Students undertake some formal workshop and lecture-based training chosen from a programme of topics, ranging from intellectual property issues to bioinformatics and writing and presentation skills. The Department of Cardiovascular Sciences offers PhD and MD degrees by research. Applicants for the PhD programme would usually be expected to have a first or upper second class honours degree, or masters degree. For the MD programme a medical degree is required.
Candidates considering making a speculative application to the Department should contact members of staff whose area of research they are interested in. Alternatively they can contact the Cardiovascular Sciences Postgraduate Tutor. Information about taught postgraduate courses and research degrees, including opportunities in other departments, is available from the Faculty of Medicine and Biological Sciences pages. Specific guidance for potential applicants for the degree of MD is also available. More general information for postgraduate study, such as details of how to apply, fees, regulations etc. can be found in the University of Leicester Postgraduate Prospectus
