The group pursues a broad range of both basic and clinical research in the areas of coronary heart disease, hypertension, thrombosis, cardiac imaging and arrythmias. Principle themes include: Molecular genetics of coronary heart disease and hypertension; platelet function and haemostatic mechanisms in atherothrombotic diseases; the role of biological ageing in coronary heart disease; the use of vessel wall targeting of therapeutic agents to limit the pathological consequences of vessel wall injury caused by angioplasty or stent implantation; development of myocardial perfusion imaging and measurement in acute myocardial infarction, chronic ischaemia and failure; characterisation of the factors involved in the initiation of cardiac arrhythmias; circadian timing in the cardiovascular system. |
