EMDA (East Midlands Development Agency)

EMDA is one of nine Regional Development Agencies in England set up in 1999 to bring a regional focus to economic development.

Medilink

Publicly-run support organisation which has a network of regional branches. Their aim is to stimulate networking between medical manufacturing, distribution, hospitals and universities to increase innovation in the medical technology and systems sector. Incubation

Biocity, Nottingham

Biocity is a healthcare and bioscience innovation and incubation centre for start-ups and established ventures requiring space to expand. Regular conferences are held at Biocity and free business advice is available.

East Midlands Incubation Network (EMIN)

Are funded by HEFCE and EMDA with the aim of supporting start-up businesses primarily in the East Midlands. They offer business expertise, company incubation and networking opportunities.

The United Kingdom Science Park Association (UKSPA)

Involved in the planning, development and the creation of Science Parks to facilitate the development and management of innovative, high growth, knowledge base organisations.

Training

Connect Midlands

They support technology-based businesses by hosting conferences, provide training using workshops and seminars and offer a network of relevant contacts.

Connect InvoRed (Investment Readiness programme offered on behalf of EMDA)

They support technology-based companies to become "investor-ready" by providing mentoring, presentation reviews for pitching business proposals and identifying potential investors. Companies must satisfy InvoRed's criteria to be eligible for the programme.

Medici Programme

This HEFCE-funded programme provides training and support of commercial development of research within 15 Midlands Universities. They aim to promote entrepreneurship and commercial awareness in biomedical, technology and creative industry related areas.
