Access to Other Libraries

For distance learning students who are based in the UK and wish to use other libraries there is a national co-operative scheme that you can join that will allow you to borrow from other University Libraries in the UK. It is called SCONUL Access.

Details of the scheme and how to join is available on our Access to other Libraries pages. The scheme lists the University Libraries that are members.

For students outside the UK we will try to help you to get access to any library, wherever in the world you are based. For example we can provide introductory letters if required. Please contact us about this.

When approaching a library where you do not have access as a right, be prepared to explain the nature, content and level of your course. Take proof of who you are, including your University ID, and be ready to explain what information/materials you are looking for. Access may be free or there may be a charge. You should also check what you may use, for example, using books in the library, borrowing books, using computers, enquiry services, photocopying etc. It is always advisable to contact the library before you visit to find out if you may have access.

To identify Libraries you may wish to use go to our Catalogues of other Libraries pages for lists and links to their library catalogues.
