Department of Criminology

Welcome to the Department of Criminology

The Department of Criminology provides a welcoming academic environment for undergraduate and postgraduate students whether they chose  to  study with us here at Leicester or undertake one of our distance learning courses from home.

Since its inauguration in 1988, the Department of Criminology has established itself as a centre for excellence in criminological research and we take pride in the fact that our research feeds directly into our teaching, ensuring that our students become steeped not only in traditional criminology, but also in current, cutting-edge debates.

Teaching and research at the Department of Criminology covers a wide range of criminological topics, with an emphasis on exciting new areas of study such as defining and managing risk and security post 9/11, tackling anti-social behaviour, understanding hate crime and identifying and dealing with crime in rural as well as urban settings.

The second issue of the Department of Criminology's newsletter, Criminology in Focus, is now available to download in pdf format.
