Biochemistry in Undergraduate Teaching at Leicester
Biochemistry at Leicester is fortunate in being closely integrated with related disciplines. The Department is a member of the School of Biological Sciences in the Faculty of Medicine and Biological Sciences. There are, in addition, close working relationships in both teaching and research with the Department of Chemistry and with the MRC Toxicology Unit.
The focus of the Department's teaching from the inception of the School of Biological Sciences has been the BSc in Biological Sciences; students can now indicate their particular specialisation as BSc in Biological Sciences (Biochemistry). The Department has been instrumental in designing two further degrees, Chemical Biology (formerly Biological Chemistry - a joint degree with Chemistry) and Medical Biochemistry, both of which form a crucial part of the Department's undergraduate teaching programme and ensure that the Department maintains a commitment, in teaching as well as in research, to all aspects of modern biochemistry.
