MA in Archaeology and Heritage DISTANCE LEARNING. A two-year course which deals with the analysis, interpretation and management of the archaeological heritage. Introductory certificates, postgraduate diplomas and certificates are also now available by Distance Learning. For futher information goto.

MA in Archaeology and Landscape History This interdisciplinary programme offers a fresh and detailed approach to understanding the forms, evolutions and interpretations of the varied landscapes that exist beyond yet interact with urban spaces.

MA in Art Museum and Gallery Studies Also Available by DISTANCE LEARNING.Producing the most widely recognised professional museum qualifications in the world, for full-time and distance learning Masters and Diploma courses, as well as opportunities for research degrees.

MA/MSc in Digital Heritage The course aims to engage students critically and creatively with wide ranging ideas and issues, and to develop a view of digital heritage informed by both theory and the practical methods and skills necessary to become creative and effective new media professionals in the heritage sector.


MA in English Literary Research Designed to enable students to pursue individual interests in English literary studies from the medieval period to the present day, whilst acquiring knowledge and developing skills necessary for advanced research.

MA in English Local History This famous degree covers all of England and Wales, in a locally comparative way. It is especially concerned with landscape, community and regional cultural history, with interdisciplinary approaches, and it provides a thorough training in skills needed for local history, heritage studies, and contextual family history.

MA in European Urbanisation This interdisciplinary course presents the opportunity to study in two European cities. It will appeal to students interested in European urban history and urban studies and entails a comparative study of the city and its impact on European development.

MA in Historical Archaeology Also Available by DISTANCE LEARNING.This programme involves the study of theories and approaches relevant to both classical, medieval and post-medieval archaeology, but with a focus on later historical archaeology in the north American sense, exploring issues such as colonialism, globalisation and capitalism, industrialisation, slavery and identity. The programme is also available by Distance Learning

MA in History Provides a thorough grounding in historical research methods, along with a wide range of optional modules from different periods and aspects of History.

MA in Humanities The Faculty's modular MA course offering a wealth of opportunity for individual research across a wide range of subjects. Includes an innovative research training element.

MA in Interpretive Studies BY DISTANCE LEARNING A multidisciplinary degree from the Department of Museum Studies. The programme will appeal to all those interested in forms of communication, in such wide ranging areas as outdoor interpretation, broadcasting, journalism, museum and gallery communication, education and academic writing.

MA in Learning and Visitor Studies in Museums and Galleries by Distance Learning This programme aims to provide students with the necessary high-quality skills and knowledge to engage critically and creatively with the theory and practice of museum learning and visitor studies.

MA in Modern Literature This course combines an intensive introduction to the range of modern literary and cultural theory with detailed examination of individual writers, texts and issues.

MA in Medical Humanities This course will provide a thorough grounding in Arts research skills and methodologies which in turn offer the analytical skills to discuss, for instance, the history of medicine and the public image of the doctor; race, gender, the treatement of mental illness and of the elderly.

MA in Rome and its Neighbours A course drawing on the expertise of one of Britain's largest groupings of specialists on Rome and contemporary cultures. Designed for graduates in either Archaeology or Ancient History.

MA in the Classical Mediterranean This interdisciplinary programme provides an exciting and challenging forum for tracing, debating and interpreting the archaeology and history of the Classical Mediterranean world across the Greek and Roman periods.

MA in the Country House: Art, History and Literature This MA provides an interesting and wide-ranging introduction to the complex and changing position of the country house in its local, regional and national environment.

MA in Urban History This is the only MA in Urban History in the UK and it offers a broad interdisciplinary introduction to the study of the city from classical antiquity to modern times. Students taking this course can opt to take specialist pathways in 'Global Cities' and in 'Conservation, Heritage and Planning'. A general pathway is also available. The course will appeal to historians, local historians, geographers, art historians, archaeologists and those interested in planning, conservation and heritage.


MA in Victorian Studies A cross-disciplinary course offering a range of perspectives on Victorian literature, art and society in the light of modern cultural and literary theory.
