EXAMINATIONS

The Examinations Office helps to secure academic standards through the application of centralised procedures.  It is responsible for all undergraduate and campus-based taught postgraduate examination arrangements, in their entirety in the case of undergraduate examinations other than those for the MBChB, and in the case of the remainder by ensuring that relevant University procedures are followed. The centralised procedures which contribute to securing standards include:
·        invigilation arrangements
·        arrangements to ensure student anonymity in written examinations
·        security of examination question papers
·        provision of support to students with special needs.

TIMETABLING AND ROOM BOOKINGS

The University uses CMIS software to produce a centrally-generated teaching timetable for lectures, seminars and small-group teaching.
Central timetabling allows the University to:
·        optimise room use, taking account of ‘good fit’ considerations
·        minimise timetable clashes and deal quickly with those that do occur
·        co-ordinate provision of audio visual services and portering staff
·        monitor changes in teaching patterns
·        ensure that teaching room allocation is equitable across the institution

A central room bookings system provides a single point of contact through which departmental staff can make arrangements for booking rooms for teaching activities.  Room use is monitored through regular audits, the results of which are used to inform discussions about space allocation.
