Course Summary
Forensic psychology is a major growth area in contemporary psychology.
The courses are distance learning courses are designed to cover the application of psychology to forensic and legal issues. As well as psychologists, current students on the courses include police officers, probation officers, lawyers, and other staff working in psychiatric settings and prisons. The principal aim of the courses in to equip students with a sound knowledge and understanding of a broad range of topics in forensic and legal psychology. This knowledge includes not only an appreciation of theory and fact, but also an awareness of the strengths and limitations of research evidence, as well as its applications. Students studying on the MSc in Applied Forensic Psychology will study the following academic modules:
- Psychology, the Legal System and Criminology
- Psychology of Criminal Behaviour
- Psychology and Investigation
- The Psychology of the Courtroom
- Management and Treatment of Offenders
- Research Methods in Forensic Psychology
- Dissertation (empirical study or literature review)
Applications are accepted throughout the year. Course places are filled (by those that meet the entry criteria) on a first come, first served basis. |
