Dr George Lewis invited to speak at Royal Shakespeare Company

RSC Noughts play image

The Royal Shakespeare Company recently invited Dr George Lewis, a Reader in American History and a specialist on the US civil rights movement, to talk to the director, cast and crew of its production of Noughts & Crosses.

He has also been commissioned to write a section on civil rights for the RSC’s programme. The play, which is based on Malorie Blackman’s novel and inspired by Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, dramatises an interracial love affair in a racially segregated society. It is currently playing in Stratford to very favourable reviews, and will begin a national tour in February.
