The Forensic Research Centre is a multidisciplinary research centre based at the University of Leicester. The Centre aims to promote and develop research in the forensic area from a multidisciplinary perspective.

The Centre has been established in recognition that crime is a multi-faceted problem with responses to it often involving a range of agencies working together. For example, dealing effectively with domestic violence involves ensuring that health services and schools are alert to the signs of abuse, the police are prepared to prosecute and to secure the victim’s safety and voluntary sector agencies such as Women’s Aid are there to provide ongoing support and advice . Therefore, these issues are often best examined concurrently from a number of different academic perspectives using a range of methodologies. There is an increasing recognition of this by policy and funding agencies. Historically, many researchers at the University of Leicester have worked in multidisciplinary teams brought together for specific projects on crime. The University of Leicester is, therefore, in an excellent position to take this work further and develop into a centre of international excellence. The new Forensic Research Centre intends to support and further encourage the development of such work by acting as a forum for collaborative research and discussion, and providing opportunities for dissemination of research findings and ideas.
