The Department of Chemistry at the University of Leicester is recognised both nationally and internationally both for its research and its excellence in teaching.
Our research interests are arrayed around interdisciplinary work in biological chemistry, green chemistry and molecular properties. The research ranges from fundamental blue-sky work to applied research with industrial co-funders. We have substantial funding from industrial and government sponsored research. Recent research work has led to the formation of "spin-out" companies.
The quality of our teaching in chemistry has been recognised by an "Excellent" in the teaching quality assessment exercise. We have recently invested over half a million pounds in state-of-the art teaching equipment, to allow students a 21st century training in modern chemistry. We offer a range of three and four year courses that reflect the modern needs for chemistry in industry and society. The chemistry degree programmes have full accreditation from the Royal Society of Chemistry.
