School success in 2008 Research Assessment Exercise

December 2008 saw the announcement of the results for the UK's latest national Research Assessment Exercise, a period process of peer review evaluating the research performance of UK university departments.

The School was delighted to see that that the outcome confirms its place in the vanguard of both Archaeology and Ancient History departments in the UK. No less that 65% of our research was rated in the top two brackets of international excellence (4*, 3*), a proportion which puts us 2= among UK archaeology departments and 1= among departments teaching both disciplines.
