MSc in Psychology of Work

Two year, distance learning course


Course Summary

Organisations are increasingly applying psychological knowledge, theory and methods to help them understand and solve important issues.

The MSc in Psychology of Work is a two-year part-time course studied through distance learning. The principal aim of the course in to equip students with a sound knowledge and understanding of a broad range of topics in Work and Industrial Psychology. This knowledge includes an appreciation of research and theory. However, there is also a strong emphasis on giving students an awareness of how psychology can be used to help organizations to improve, and to better understand and solve problems.

Students studying on the MSc in Psychology of Work will study the following six modules:
  • Research Methods
  • Personnel Selection and Assessment
  • Ergonomics
  • The Psychology of Organsing (including teams, leadership, organisational change, motivation, organisational culture)
  • The Psychology of Occupational Training and Learning
  • The Individual at Work (including stress, work-life balance, workplace counselling, managing diversity, performance management and career development)

Students will also complete a dissertation on an organisational issue of their choice. This can involve carrying out applied empirical research (usually within an organisation) or completing a literature review, or the design of a research study.
