ISHLL is a society of scholars interested in the history of the dictionary, making historical dictionaries, and historical lexicology. Membership is currently free.

ISHLL was established as a result of the first International Conference on Historical Lexicography and Lexicology, which took place in Leicester in 2002. The proceedings, Historical Dictionaries and Historical Dictionary Research, edited by Julie Coleman and Anne McDermott, were published by Niemeyer in 2004. These were followed by proceedings from Gargnano del Garda, near Brescia, Italy in 2004: Words and Dictionaries from the British Isles in Historical Perspective, edited by John Considine and Giovanni Iamartino and from Leiden in 2006: Yesterday's Words: Contemporary, Current and Future Lexicography, edited by Marijke Mooijaart and Marijke van der Wal.

The fourth ICHLL was in Edmonton, Canada in June 2008, and the fifth will be at St. Anne's College, Oxford, from the 16th to the 18th of June, 2010.

If you would like to receive further information about the 5th ICHLL, please subscribe to the ISHLL mailing list. Subscribers to the mailing list may also receive information about other relevant events and publications. If you have any notices that you would like to send to this mailing list, please email them to the chair of the committee, Julie Coleman ([email protected]).
